Inter Trade Conference

19 February 2009

On 5th March Inter Trade Ireland will hold their annual Private Equity Conference (PEC). The conference theme is Raising Venture Investment Finance and as the full title (Experiences shared and lessons learned) suggests this year the emphasis is upon sharing of best practice from people who have actually been at the sharp end of venture capital in this testing financial market.

The entertainment factor will come from the host John Bowman, an RTE presenter. The expertise will come from Venture Capital providers, development companies and entrepreneurs such as Patrick Collinson who at the tender age of 19 sold his own venture Auctomatic.

Delegates will benefit from question and answer sessions with various regional winners of last years Seedcorn Business Competition. The chief executive of Inter Trade Ireland who ran this competition has said in response to the worsening economic situation that “(T)he recession can provide an opportunity for early-stage companies to position themselves to emerge as leaders when the economy recovers”

The keynote speaker at the conference is the chairman of Opsona Theraputics and the chief executive of Biotrin International – Dr Corman Kilty. Dr Kilty has stressed the importance of companies being able to clearly demonstrate how the investment in the company will add value. Dr Kilty added to this end that ‘(T)he earlier you go to the market looking for finance, the more difficult it is to demonstrate VEE (Value Evaluating Events), and the higher the price you’ll have to pay for the money.”
